I beg you, gentle readers, to indulge me in this off topic post. This was inspired by a recent question on Quora asking what are the 10 things you like the most about your spouse. This sounded like a fantastic exercise, and I wanted to put it someplace that would be public. So, in no particular order, here are 10 things that I love about Teresa.
She loves her family sacrificially. It is nothing for her to drop everything to take care of one of the children
She is a magnificent cook. She doesn’t make gourmet, but her home cooking is fantastic and if I didn’t get to the gym regularly I would be as big as a house.
She is incredibly gifted when working with students who are struggling, and her love for children shines through.
Even though her schedule and some physical issues make it difficult she still gets to the gym as often as she can take care of herself.
I find her beautiful and very pleasant to look at.
She laughs at my corny jokes.
She supports me in my various endeavors and hobbies, even when they are some what time consuming.
Even though she was not gifted with much of a libido, she is a very generous and giving partner.
She keeps me on the right track, and is a real tiger when it comes to keeping our budget balanced.
She loves to worship her Lord. When she is worshipping her whole countenance glows.
Now, these are things I love about my wife but they are not why I love my wife. I love my wife because God joined us together. I find that when I take action in love, the feelings follow. And I am overjoyed to report that closing in on 25 years of marriage, the feelings are still there.
One final note: I started this post over a week ago, but because of my crazy schedule right now I wasn’t able to complete it until tonight. Coincidentally, today Teresa was in the hospital having a lump removed from her breast. All is well, although we will get the results of a follow-up pathology report next week.
Anyway, spend some time reflecting on the things you like about the people God has called you to love. You may find that after contemplating these things your feelings are transformed as well.
